Remembering Lizzy

Our Dance School Scholarship offers annual fee-free training

Kandeez Dancer, Lizzy Browell, passed away suddenly in 2015 aged just 8. Lizzy was a bright, talented and hardworking young lady whose smile lit up the room. We wanted to honour her memory and so the Lizzy Browell Scholarship was born.

When Lizzy passed away, I wanted to do something positive to help keep her memory alive. With her parents’ blessing, The Lizzy Browell Scholarship was launched.

Since 2016, 13 dancers aged between five and 16, have benefitted from a year’s fee-free training, totalling over £10,000. This has allowed them to learn styles they perhaps wouldn’t have had the chance to normally and learn from the experience of different teachers.

The Scholarship will be changing from 2022 to give both Kandeez dancers and young people from the local community, the opportunity to audition for the Scholarship and benefit from our extensive training here at Kandeez. "When Ruby was awarded the Lizzie Browell scholarship in 2019, it was such an honour and privilege. Ruby has utilised her scholarship to attend different dance classes, moving out of her comfort zone by trying new styles and developing in technique. Through these opportunities Ruby's confidence has grown and despite the challenges this year has brought, the scholarship has given her that extra resilience, determination and growth mindset to continue her love of dance. "When I found out I won the scholarship, I was so shocked and unbelievably grateful. Even though I never had the opportunity to meet Lizzy, dancing for her was amazing and from this day forward I always will do. Being a scholarship winner was my biggest achievement and trying out different classes, working with new teachers, and trying new dance styles - I enjoyed it so much. “When I first got the Scholarship I felt so excited. I got to do so many more dance lessons - Ballet, Tap, Commercial and Musical Theatre. I’ve enjoyed every single bit of it and have found that I really love Ballet! I’ve become better at performing and using my emotions when I dance.
