Disco freestyle
We teach a wide range of styles at our dance school
What would you like to learn at Kandeez Dance School?
Disco Freestyle
Disco Freestyle came about in the 1970s following the release of the film, ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ It continues to develop in line with the current music trends and includes runs, spins, kicks, leaps and jumps with combinations of different arm and hand gestures.
Street
Street is an umbrella term which encompasses a range of dance styles such as Hip Hop, Funk and Breakdancing. These styles evolved outside of dance studios in any available open space such as streets, parks and school yards. Our Street dance classes explore the various styles in a fun, engaging way.
Rock n Roll
Rock n Roll is a highly energetic partner dance which emerged in America from the Swing dance Lindy Hop. Many of our Rock n Roll dancers compete at National level and enjoy great success in this style.
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation from which almost all dance styles have developed. It requires strong technique, athleticism and grace. Our children’s Ballet classes focus on teaching the beginnings of Ballet in a relaxed, fun way.
Tap
Tap has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.
Modern
Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. It includes the use of travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns.
Acro
This class focuses on strength and flexibility. Acro dance is a style that combines the techniques of classical dance with acrobatic movements. This form of dance is very athletic and unique.
Commercial
A style of dance that is designed to be performed in front of an audience. It is a broad category that can include everything from hip-hop to jazz. Commercial is what we class as a fun ‘sassy’ style.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a combination of ballet and jazz dance that often uses music with lyrics to inspire the movements of the dancer.

Dance to win
Dance School Competiton squad
Our Dance School Squad take part in regular Disco, Street and Rock n Roll competitions, both regionally and nationally. In addition, the Squad represents Kandeez Dance at various competitive events, including Southend, Hemel Hempstead, Gillingham, Cambridge, Swindon, Maidstone, Staines and the ISTD National Finals in Guildford.
Part of our classes concentrates on teaching pupils how to discipline their bodies. As well as this, we also study the correct technique required to compete at their very best level.
Our school abides by standard competition rules. As a result, only dancers who have taken an exam in the year prior to the date of any competition will be considered to represent the Dance School.

Examinations
Exams at Kandeez Dance Ltd are taken with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, a Government recognised awarding body. Exams are offered at least once a year to those pupils whose dancing has reached the required standard.
Our pupils regularly receive fantastic results, through hard work and dedication . Our last Disco and Rock n Roll exam session saw 100% of our dancers receive Honours, the highest mark to be awarded in an amateur exam.
Students taking their Grade 1 Tap exam in 2017 celebrated marks of an overall Merit or higher.
